Diwali means celebration time.  Diwali falls on the day of amavasya or new moon in the Hindu month of Aasu. It is called the festival of lights – the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowlege over ignorance..

The seven day celebrations of Diwali starts from Ekadasi and end on Bhai beej. Here are the auspicious days: Ekadasi, Vaag Baras, Dhan Theras, Kali Chaudas, Diwali, New Year and Bhai Beej.

The festival of lights celebrates Rama-chandra returning to his people after 14 years of exile.

On this day people get together and exchange gifts and sweetmeats. Diyas are lit through out the house. Everyone gets together and light fireworks.

Rangoli is an art form in which patterns are created on the floor using materials such as colored rice, dry flour or flower petals. It os usually made during Diwali.

This festival of lights marks the beginning of Bestu Varas, I.e. Gujarati New Year as it is celebrated a day after Diwali. As per the Hindu calendar , it falls in the month of Kartik ( the first month of the Gujarati calendar}.

The Gujarati New Year celebrations are marked by people visiting the mandir and meeting family and friends. People greet each other and exchange new year wishes with the terms like Saal  Mubarak or Nutan Varsh Abhinandan.

Other aspects of the celebrations include splendid fireworks, beautifully decorated homes and vibes of happiness and festivities all around. Women of the household prepare delicious sweets and snacks which is then distributed among all the neighbors.

At the Samaj New Year is celebrated early in the morning where people attend the morning aarti , thereafter attend the programme in the auditorium where dance items and speeches are given. Awards are given to members of the community who has selflessly offered their services and time to volunteer at the samaj. Everyone in the community comes together and greet each other and enjoy the celebrations. Around 500 people attend these festivities.

 

A grand fireworks display and festival takes place at the stadium for the entire community where the public comes together and enjoys the cultural show , food and fireworks. More then ten thousand people attend.
