It is one of the major Indian harvest festival celebrated on 14<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of January of every year. It marks the first day of the sun\u2019s transit into the Makara, marking the end of the month with the winter solstice and the start of longer days. \u00a0Kite or \u2018patang\u2019 flying is traditionally observed as a part of this festival.
