Welcome to the Shree Pretoria Hindu Seva Samaj

The Samaj, as it is popularly known, is the cultural home of the Gujarati Hindu community of Pretoria in South Africa. Established in 1932 by a small band of pioneers from the state of Gujarat in India, the primary objective in its formation was to serve as a bulwark and a source of comfort against the socio-economic and political onslaught waged against the community by its Apartheid government. Today, the Samaj actively strives to serve the educational, cultural and spiritual needs of the Gujarati diaspora that settled in the Pretoria area.

Throughout all the years of discrimination suffered by this community, it was the programmes initiated by the dedicated volunteers who served as officials of the Shree Pretoria Hindu Seva Samaj over all these years that ensured that the communities rich cultural heritage, their customs and rituals, their language  and their Sanathan Dharma continues to thrive to this day.
